About Chris Young
Collage of what I get up to when I'm not designing. I'm big on getting outside and getting at it — whether it's on the water, biking or knee deep in the snow.

Design Industry and Volunteer Work

I’m involved with Vancouver’s creative and design industry, as a volunteer member of Creative Pulse, which produces at-capacity monthly casual events for Vancouver’s advertising/design creatives and other industry professionals. CP’s aim is to connect likeminded creatives in a collaborative and inspiring setting. Creative Pulse also hosts the hugely successful Behance Portfolio Reviews, #BehanceVAN. You can find out more about Creative Pulse at creativepulse.co and facebook.com/CreativePulseVancouver.

I also volunteer at GDC and partner events, like Practivism and Interesting Vancouver.

In addition to design, I’m deeply involved with the action sports industry. Working with a team, I’ve helped organize some of the most prestigious events on the BMX calendar including the legendary Red Bull Elevation contests and the Metro Jam BMX contest series around the world.

I’ve been an active Director of the Vancouver Skateboard Coalition (VSBC) since 1999, working with the City of Vancouver and Vancouver Park Board on solutions for active youth parks, as well as lead member of the Vancouver Dirt Jump Coalition, in the development of the pumptrack at Empire Fields at Hastings Park (July 2015) and the Vanier Park Dirt Jump Park in Vancouver (October 2010).

In my spare time I’m an avid cyclist, snowboarder, swimmer, camper, hiker and lover of the outdoors.
