For the 2011 Lancaster Mall print ads, a concentrated emphasis is placed on community news awareness, and so these ads are more content-heavy than your trendy fashion-based ads that other malls might use. Lancaster Mall is on Saint John, New Brunswick’s west side – a polar opposite to any of the lower mainland’s leading malls, and so the approach used is much different. The ads appear in the River Valley News, a monthly publish newspaper, with a more mature reader base, which is exactly who we’re speaking to in these ads. These are the loyal customers that have shopped at the mall for the past 30 years. The ads are split up into different areas showcasing the latest mall news, an ‘in the community’ column, as well as a Savings Zone showcasing some of the sales and specials taking place at the mall. For the ads leading up to the 2011 holiday season, we showcased the many events that would be taking place at the mall including crafts, home-made baking sales and the Music in the Mall events.

The ads shown on the far right are from the reopening of the renovated Lancaster Mall. The entire mall identity was refreshed from the ground up. Shown are a grand opening teaser ad, and a detailed events listing version of the ad that ran in local papers, as well as the unaddressed ad mail postcards that were mailed out within a 5km radius of the mall.

A sampling of ads, postcards, window displays, blog post and email graphics for one of the Lower Mainland’s premiere children stores, with locations in Vancouver and Port Moody. I’ve been working with Dandelion since day one back in 1994.

In addition to doing ads for Dandelion Kids, I’ve also been helping them with all kids of graphics and window displays. Everything from buttons to postcards, and from time-to-time, I put on my PR hat and help them get some exposure by tapping into my contacts; such as helping coordinate and assemble a Homegrown feature on Vancouver Is Awesome, which you can see here.

A concentrated effort goes into making sure that blog posts and graphics for Dandelion’s email subscribers are consistently high quality, as it’s important to show off all the products in a fun and refreshing way, just as they are in their print ads.

A few ads for the Metro Jam BMX contest series. I oversaw the entire Metro Jam BMX contest series, from conception to logo(s) creation, designing the ads, website, writing copy and press releases right through to running the actual event. Each year the contest would take on a different look/colour scheme, and rotate through a few different logos to keep things fresh. The Metro Jam contest series ran annually in both Toronto and Vancouver from 2001–2006, and in 2007 we took the contest to Singapore for the RushHD television channel.

The Metro Jam contest series was one of the most anticipated street contest events of the calendar year drawing many of the world’s top professional riders. The Metro Jam was most proud of pulling in pro riders that had shied away from contests once the large TV contests like the X-Games had tarnished the competitive scene for the most core riders.

A couple ads for the Bogner Development Group’s Bacara development of luxury family-style townhomes in the Clayton Village area of Surrey, BC. Coercion Design was brought in on this job midway through it’s program to help boost sales which had levelled off. Ads we’re produced for several different magazines and newspapers.

Heatherbrae Construction received the contract for upgrades and renovations to the ageing Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver. BC Business Magazine profiled the Theatre’s renovations, which was published just before the opening night event. We took advantage of raising Heatherbrae’s profile amongst the general public by placing the ad near the article. The Queen Elizabeth Theatre turned 50 years old in 2009.

A press kit was also assembled for the grand opening event, profiling some of Heatherbrae’s higher profile construction jobs, including the Luge Track for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics (in Whistler) and the magnificent Keefer Building in Gastown.
