The British Columbia Construction Industry Training Organization (BC CITO) is the Industry Training Organization (ITO) responsible for the Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) sector of the construction industry. CITO leads and supports the development of skilled workforce to meet industry’s needs and is responsible for 33 trades programs within the ICI sector.

The BC CITO project was an overall refresh of marketing and collateral material including a website to broaden their awareness to the construction industry. They wanted the new website to be a simple to update ‘communication exchange’ with their stakeholders to get news, updates and press releases out to the industry easily and efficiently.

Broadband Network Three (BBN3), part of the SoMedia Group specializes in technology-driven and in-the-cloud video production.

BBN3 wanted a new website which better reflected the company’s direction. Phase 1 of the project started with an overhaul of the BBN3Video identity, then progressed into designing a new look & feel for their company. In the past their graphics had been inconsistent and so a style guide was written to help the internal design team stay on brand moving forward.

Reimer Alliance International is the world leader in volumetric mixing technology, starting over 40 years ago to solve the problems associated with remote location concrete delivery. The client wanted a fresh and bold new look for their expanding product line. The website was designed to tightly integrate with new print collateral, and designed/produced quickly to meet a trade show deadline.

To give credit where credit is due, I took over this job when a good amount of the underlying design was already put into place. The job was handed over to me to ‘brush up the GUI a bit’, which ended up being a redesign of a decent amount of the website, including the front page, models page (and rollover treatment) and the At Work sections.

This publication was produced for Forestry Innovation Investment (FII), a provincial agency that promotes British Columbia’s forest practices and products around the world. FII is a provincial crown corporation set up by the British Columbia government in 2003 to support an environmentally sustainable and prosperous forest economy in British Columbia.

FII was pleased with the Wood Fibre Opportunities booklet, and had us design their next major project – a 60-page book highlighting investment in British Columbia forestry to an international audience. The book uses the first project as a starting point for design, keeping in mind the more text-heavy informative content of the book.

The book was designed in four languages – English, Chinese, Korean and Japanese. I designed, laid out, and typeset all but the Chinese book in-house in a relatively tight time-frame. The final book layout were proofed by translation teams to ensure accuracy before the documents were printed in Asia.

Windset Farms is one of North America’s premier produce growers, with major operations in Delta, BC and a new massive greenhouse complex in Santa Maria, California.

The WindsetTV section of their website houses video content including recipes, which are easy to follow along with. There are four sections “Saturday Chefs on Global TV”, “Friends in Freshness”, Commercials, and Events.

Refreshing the design of the WindsetTV page was carefully thought out to incorporate new design elements while keeping the look and feel cohesive with the rest of the site. The website is a behemoth so changes to the structure and templates/grids could have large usability consequences. A lengthy research and planning phase including a full review of how users navigate the site took place before beginning the new design.

The goal of the redesign was to create a clear hierarchy of content, and keep it organized and clean while incorporating user recipe ratings, prep time, cook time, recipe plans, printable recipe cards, difficulty and number of servings. Logged in users can favourite, bookmark, rate and comment on each recipe.

Vista D’oro Farms is a culinary agri-tourism destination located in South Langley, BC on ten acres overlooking Campbell Valley Park and Golden Ears Mountain Range south of Vancouver. On the farm they grow heritage orchard fruits, culinary herbs and grapes all of which can be found in their shop & tasting room.

The purpose of the redesign of the Vista D’oro website was to breathe new life into their original website, which they felt no longer represented them. This website was done on a modest budget. I chose to make good use of the existing photos to let them tell the story of this hobby farm and winery, and let the products stand out on their own.

Identity for Little Pumpkins, a start-up baby store in Calgary, Alberta serving their market with a classy and approachable look. Three logos were presented to the client as pencil sketches, then moving along to the next step, the illustration was tightened up digitally and colour variations were edited down to our three selections for approval of ‘the one’.

As of this time, only the logo has been completed, with possible second phase including a stationery package, website, signage and website.

Looking for a fresh and bold new look for their expanding product line, Reimer needed some new print collateral for a major trade show in Las Vegas. The presentation folder is a sales tool complete with a deep pocket to hold a number of specialized info sheets depending on the client’s interests. All the collateral was designed with tight integration to the website that I also helped design – you can see the website here.

This British Columbia Wood Fibre Opportunities brochure was produced to highlight investment opportunities in BC forestry in an international marketplace. The 16-page graphic document leans strongly on showcasing key 2010 Vancouver Olympic venues that used wood as it’s main architectural platform. English and Chinese versions of the brochure were produced.

Project consisted of a complete redesign of The Salient Group’s corporate website. The company had grown, and wanted to present a more accurate representation of what the company had grown into. They also wanted to augment their news section, get their entire company’s press and media coverage online, and provide more information to buyers on both their residential and commercial projects.

I designed the original website for The Salient Group a couple years prior, but it was limited by what little content they had at the time. In the two years between websites many projects were completed and more were in the works.

We took advantage of all the new social media tools including Facebook, Twitter and flickr. An HTML email newsletter was also deployed in conjunction with the new website to deliver highly-tailored information and promote blog content.
