Forbes Medi-Tech annual report for their 2000 fiscal year. Forbes Medi-Tech develops and markets a portfolio of nutraceutical products, including functional foods and supplements. Nutraceuticals includes ‘functional foods’, which are conventional foods containing ingredients that provide additional health or nutritional benefits leading to possible risk reduction of contracting chronic diseases.

This was my first, and unfortunately, not my last annual report. This 42-page perfect-bound document printed on a brilliant white uncoated stock may have looked pretty – and as interesting as it is to learn about the extraction of healthy components from plants and trees which then get sprinkled on my cereal to keep me healthy – this is where I discovered my dislike of annual reports.

Back when I did this, I’d heard that annual reports were always the dream job to get… But I quickly realized that it’s painful to have the CEO re-write his intro no less than 7 times, and after my 5th round of placing and re-formatting all the financials and generating over 200 prints of proofs, I realized that annual reports and myself just could not be friends.
